Text of the Lecture by Hojat al-Islam Mohammad Bagher Saeedi Roshan, Head of the Institute of Seminaries and Universities, at the Scientific Session “Approaching God for Spiritual Health”
- The essence of life in the natural world and the world of mixtures is intertwined with hardship. “Indeed, We have created man into hardship.” (Quran, 90:4)
- Human beings have two dimensions, the body and the soul. The body requires comfort, and the soul needs tranquility.
- Knowledge and reason may provide the basis for relative comfort for humans, but the human psyche does not find tranquility by meeting material needs alone. So, what is the solution?
- Tranquility is an inner matter related to the heart of a person, which can only be achieved in the light of faith in the origin of existence.
- Monotheistic insight and heartfelt belief in the present Creator, who continually manifests His essence to the entire universe, bestows upon humanity a sense of humility and directs them towards a wise and just ultimate goal, enabling humans to see their mixed world with its adversities as transient and insignificant.
“He arranges [each] matter from the heaven to the earth; then it will ascend to Him in a Day, the extent of which is a thousand years of those which you count.” (Quran, 32:5)
- Human beings, in connection with Allah and under divine guardianship, find themselves encompassed by the security of God.
“Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.” (Quran, 10:62)
- Spiritual health is primarily related to the human soul. If the gateway to spiritual health starts from the source of belief in monotheism and transitions to practical monotheism, and if a person seeks assistance from the Almighty rather than just relying on causes, gradually their soul will attain a level of patience and resilience. The practice of faith in gratitude and resistance leads to a state of contentment, satisfaction, and tranquility. “Work, O family of David, in gratitude.” And few of My servants are grateful.” (Quran, 34:13) Perseverance in patience and gratitude brings a person to a state of spiritual satisfaction and tranquility. In this state, all apparently bitter and difficult aspects of life have a meaning beyond ordinary analysis. “O reassured soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him].” (Quran, 89:27-28)
These levels can only be achieved in the shadow of divine guardianship and for the followers of the school of monotheism.
“They dance and frolic in the field, They dance as men in their own blood yield. When they depart from their self’s hold, When they dive into their own deficiency fold.”
